En Famille Overseas was created in 1945 as a result of an RAF pilot being shot down over France. He was taken in and protected by French resistance fighters. Eventually he returned to England, to London. He was so touched by the warmth, kindness and friendship shown to him by his French protectors that he began to set up visits for young people to visit France. This enabled them to visit, and experience what he had felt, and so strengthen friendship and unity within Europe, hence the motto ‘European Hospitality’. Since then En Famille has grown and developed links in Spain, Italy and Germany. Very often long term friendships develop, withstanding the test of time, resulting in return visits over many years.
